How to Get from Madrid Airport to the City with a Mobility Scooter

2026 年 Jan 02 日Scooter Town

Your best option is an Eurotaxi (adapted taxi with ramp) booked in advance. The Metro technically works but is stressful with luggage and a scooter. Or skip the problem entirely: we can deliver a rental scooter to your hotel so you don't need to transport one from the airport at all.

Eurotaxi: The Recommended Option

Eurotaxis are wheelchair-accessible taxis with rear ramps that can accommodate mobility scooters. They're the most practical way to get from Barajas Airport to central Madrid with mobility equipment.

How to book: Call Radio Taxi (91 447 32 32) at least 24-48 hours before your flight. Specify that you need an Eurotaxi for a mobility scooter. You can also book through the Free Now app — filter for adapted vehicles.

Cost: Fixed airport fare to central Madrid is around €30-40, same as regular taxis. No extra charge for the adapted vehicle.

The catch: Limited availability. Book well ahead, especially for early morning or late night arrivals. If your flight is delayed, call to update them.

At the airport: The driver will meet you at arrivals. Confirm the exact meeting point when booking. All terminals have accessible exits.

Metro: Possible But Not Ideal

The Metro connects all four airport terminals to central Madrid. Line 8 runs to Nuevos Ministerios, where you can connect to other lines. It's cheap (€4.50-5 including airport supplement) and technically accessible.

The reality: Airport Metro stations have lifts, but you'll be managing a scooter plus luggage through busy stations, onto trains, and potentially making connections. Lifts aren't always working. It's doable but stressful after a flight.

My advice: Only use the Metro if you're travelling light, your scooter is compact, and you're comfortable navigating public transport in an unfamiliar city while tired. For most people, it's not worth the hassle.

Airport Express Bus: Not Recommended

The Exprés Aeropuerto bus runs 24 hours between the airport and Atocha/Cibeles. It's low-floor with a ramp, but the wheelchair space is limited and won't accommodate most mobility scooters. Unless yours folds very small, this isn't a realistic option.

Private Accessible Transfer: Premium Option

Several companies offer private accessible transfers with larger vehicles. More expensive than Eurotaxis (€50-80+) but easier to book, more reliable, and the driver will assist with luggage. Worth considering if Eurotaxis aren't available or you want guaranteed service.

Search for "accessible airport transfer Madrid" or ask your hotel for recommendations.

The Easier Option: Skip the Problem Entirely

If you're renting a scooter in Madrid rather than bringing your own, the airport transfer becomes much simpler. Take any transport you're comfortable with — regular taxi, Metro, whatever works — and we'll deliver the rental scooter to your hotel.

No wrestling a scooter through the airport. No worrying whether it fits in the taxi. You arrive, check in, and the scooter is waiting. At the end of your trip, we collect it from your hotel or even the airport.

This is one of the main advantages of renting locally over flying with your own equipment.

If You're Bringing Your Own Scooter

Arriving with your own scooter adds complexity:

• Collect it from oversized baggage (can take 30-45 minutes)

• Check for damage before leaving the airport

• Make sure battery has enough charge to operate

• Book an Eurotaxi in advance — you can't rely on finding one at the rank

Allow extra time. Things take longer when you're managing mobility equipment, especially after a flight.

The Bottom Line

Eurotaxi booked in advance is your best bet for getting from Barajas to central Madrid with a mobility scooter. But if you're renting locally, hotel delivery sidesteps the whole issue — and that's worth considering.
